At last I am the proud owner of a beautiful
set of rattan furniture. For years I had always stopped and stared when
I saw rattan furniture in department stores and shopping malls. I put on
a lot of weight lately and finally the inevitable happened. My trust old
sofa gave up. I only kept it because it was so comfy. So time to go
shopping for a new sofa. I headed straight for the rattan sofas but I
was shocked, even in Thai shops the price tags were so high.
A couple of weeks ago I was spending a
few days R&R in Pattaya. I took a motorcycle ride to take a look at
where I used to live ten years ago near Jomtien beach. The apartment
block had been demolished and in it's place a furniture showroom crammed
full of well.....rattan furniture and the price tags were half that in
the Bangkok department stores. . It took me only thirty minutes to
choose my new sofa, rattan coffee table, armchairs and a gorgeous tall
lamp with rattan leaf motif. I even got to choose custom made velvet
cushions with a special strong high grade foam inside. Pattaya is 150
Kilometers from Bangkok. I gave them my address and paid a deposit. Then
I cautiously asked how much for delivery. "no charge sir" "our factory
is just a couple of roads away from your condo in Bangkok.
I was so pleased with the furniture and
as the factory was only a short distance from my home I paid them a
visit, gathered some price lists and pictures and arranged a good deal
with the owner.
